On May 20th, the Toronto ACM SIGGRAPH Chapter had the pleasure of hosting our Expert Series presentation: High Performance Computing in Computer Graphics. We would like to thank the Dynamic Graphics Project and SysNet at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Toronto for sponsoring this event. We would also like to thank our amazing lineup of speakers for sharing with us the ins and outs of OpenCL and high performance parallel computing in computer graphics!

Our first presenter, AJ Guillon, a member of the OpenCL working group at Khronos and contributor to the OpenCL 2.1 provisional specification, gave an audience of 30 people the inside look into some of the latest features of the latest up and coming version of the framework. Our second presenter, German Andryeyev, a Principal Member of the Technical Staff for the Software Team at AMD, delved into the OpenCL-related capabilities of the AMD FirePro GPU (Click here for the slides). Last but not least, our final speaker, Associate Professor Ned Nedialkov, from the Department of Computing and Software at McMaster University, showed us the results of employing parallel computing to create 2D fractals or a 3D equivalent: Mandelboxes.  Some of the incredible videos shown are available on YouTube.

After the invaluable presentations and with all questions answered, we left the formality behind and headed over to the Prenup Pub for good cheer and networking in a more relaxed environment.  It was truly a fun time!

With this event we wrap up the 2014-2015 season of events and take a break for the summer to prepare for SIGGRAPH 2015.  We look forward to seeing you in the Fall season when we launch our new schedule!  Enjoy your summer everyone!

Next stop: SIGGRAPH 2015!
